What is a reborn doll?
Well, reborns (some also call them fake babies) are collectibles made from an original doll (such as an Ashton Drake or Berenguer doll) which is taken apart and has had its paint/colour removed. Its then painstakingly remodled and repainted using several paint layers to re-create 'real baby' skin tone features, such as colour, veins, milk spots etc.
How is the hair done?
Hair is micro rooted into the dolls head, giving it a more natural look and feel. Eyelashes are individually applied to the dolls. Even their finder nails are re-painted and tipped in white making them look like a real baby.
What is the reborn baby body made from?
As for the dolls body, usually the original dolls body is discarded and replaced with a custom fabric body that is weighted using small bags of glass beads, sand or faux filling. You can also includescented poly-pellets to give the finished reborn a smell of baby talc (I just love that smell).
Can a reborn have accessories like a real baby?
Accessories are added such as newborn baby diapers and pacifiers (thats nappies and dummies for UK readers), hospital wrist bands and baby charm bracelets. Then the dolls are dressed in newborn baby clothes or hand knitted clothes. They even have baby toys and rattles.
